Managing Stress During the Busy Season

As summer winds down and fall kicks in, life suddenly feels like it shifts into overdrive. Between school schedules, sports, work deadlines, and family responsibilities, it’s easy to feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. If you’ve been feeling pulled in a million directions, you’re not alone.

The good news? There are small, realistic ways to manage stress so this season feels a little more balanced—and a little less overwhelming.

Why Stress Builds Up This Time of Year

Stress often creeps in when routines change, expectations pile up, and we forget to slow down. Add in the pressure to “do it all” (and do it well), and burnout isn’t far behind. Recognizing that this is a demanding season is the first step in taking back some control.

Simple Ways to Manage Stress

  • Prioritize what matters most
Not everything deserves equal space on your to-do list. Ask yourself: What truly needs my attention today, and what can wait?

  • Build in breathing room
Even five minutes of stillness—deep breathing, stretching, or sitting quietly—can reset your nervous system.

  • Set realistic expectations
Give yourself permission to do things “good enough.” Perfection only fuels stress.

  • Keep small routines
A short walk, journaling, or a family dinner together can anchor your day and create a sense of calm.

  • Say no when you need to
You don’t have to attend every event, take on every project, or sign up for every activity. Protecting your energy is just as important as giving it.

Remember: You Don’t Have to Do It All

Stress is a natural part of busy seasons, but it doesn’t have to run the show. By slowing down, setting limits, and giving yourself some grace, you can move through this time with more balance and less burnout.
