Healing Through EMDR: How Trauma Therapy Can Help You Move Forward

At Wolfe Counseling Services, I offer EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help clients process and heal from trauma in a way that feels empowering, respectful, and deeply effective.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR is a structured therapy designed to help people heal from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and distressing life experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—often in the form of guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—to help the brain reprocess painful memories and shift how they are stored.

The goal isn’t to erase your memories—it’s to help you relate to them differently, so they no longer feel emotionally charged or overwhelming. Many clients find that after EMDR, their thoughts feel more neutral, their bodies more calm, and their lives more manageable.

Who Is EMDR For?

I work with clients ages 14 and up who are dealing with:

  • Past trauma (including childhood trauma, accidents, or abuse)

  • Relationship issues tied to early attachment wounds

  • Anxiety or panic attacks

  • Low self-esteem or persistent negative beliefs

  • Grief and loss

  • Distressing experiences that just won’t let go

EMDR can be helpful whether your trauma is “big T” (like a serious accident or assault) or “little t” (chronic stress, rejection, or unmet emotional needs). If it still hurts, it matters—and it’s worth healing.

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy

EMDR starts with building trust, getting clear on your goals, and developing resources for emotional safety. We’ll talk about your past and present, and identify the memories or patterns you’d like to shift.

Once we’re ready to begin reprocessing, I’ll guide you through sets of bilateral stimulation while you bring specific thoughts or images to mind. I’ll check in regularly, and we’ll go at your pace. EMDR can bring up strong emotions—but you’re never alone in the process.
